Environmental Stewardship

Sustainable, Carbon-Positive Hotel in Seattle

Rooted in Stewardship

At Populus, a deep reverence for nature and dedication to the planet drives us to continually redefine what it means to integrate bold solutions. This commitment extends to the guest experience with the One Night One Tree initiative and sourcing food from regenerative farms and ranches.

We view food as both a reflection of our relationship with the environment and a bridge between the people who grow it and those who enjoy it.

Whenever possible, we work with farms, ranches, fishmongers, and producers local to our region—while also partnering with like-minded businesses beyond it who are creating positive change in their communities. As the food system evolves, so does our approach to sourcing and menu design.

A Spirit of Generosity

One Night One Tree

Nature is inherently generous: freely giving, sustaining life, and creating abundance. Every room night booked at Populus Seattle funds the planting of a tree through the hotel’s partnership with the National Forest Foundation. This commitment has already contributed countless trees to Pacific Northwest reforestation efforts, making every guest stay an active contribution to environmental recovery.

Building with Purpose

Populus Seattle occupies the restored 1907 Westland Building in Pioneer Square. The renovation prioritized locally sourced and recycled materials, preserving original Douglas Fir beams, brick, and ironwork. Biophilic design principles guide every detail, from living walls and natural light optimization to the rooftop’s native plantings. The result is a hotel that functions as both a historic preservation project and a forward-looking model for carbon-positive hospitality.
